군산시가 봄철 관광객 증가와 새만금국제마라톤 개최에 따른 교통량 급증에 대비해 관내 주요 교차로와 간선도로의 교통신호기를 일제 점검했다고 19일 밝혔다.

시는 지난 12~13일 주요 교차로를 비롯해 터미널·전통시장·대형마트 주변, 고속도로 진·출입로 연결 구간 등을 중심으로 집중 점검을 실시했다.

점검 항목은 ▲차량·보행자 신호등 작동 상태 ▲신호제어기 및 검지기 정상 여부 ▲신호주 및 지주 안전 상태 ▲신호등 렌즈·등기구 파손 여부 ▲전기설비 이상 유무 ▲신호 연동체계 운영 상태 등이다.

현장에서 발견된 경미한 사항은 즉시 조치했으며, 긴급 보수가 필요한 시설도 모두 정비를 완료했다.

군산시는 향후에도 신호 고장 및 점멸 신호 전환 사례를 예방하기 위해 사전 점검을 강화하고, 노후 신호등과 시인성이 낮은 등기구를 신속히 교체해 교통사고 위험을 최소화할 방침이다. 또한 상시 비상 대응체계를 유지해 고장 발생 시 즉각 복구에 나설 계획이다.

문양숙 스마트도시과장은 “관광객과 마라톤 참가로 도로 이용이 크게 늘 것으로 예상된다”며 “철저한 사전 점검과 신속한 대응으로 안전한 도시 교통환경을 조성하겠다”고 밝혔다.

Gunsan City announced on the 19th that they have conducted thorough inspections of traffic signals at major intersections and arterial roads in preparation for the increase in spring tourists and the hosting of the Saemangeum International Marathon, which is expected to lead to a surge in traffic volume.

The city focused on conducting concentrated inspections on major intersections, terminals, traditional markets, large supermarkets, as well as the connecting sections of highways' entrance and exit ramps on the 12th and 13th of the month.

The inspection items included checking the operational status of vehicle and pedestrian signals, the normal functioning of signal controllers and detectors, the safety status of signal poles and brackets, the condition of signal lenses and light fixtures for damage, the presence of any electrical abnormalities, and the operational status of the signal interlocking system.

Any minor issues found on-site were promptly addressed, and all facilities requiring urgent repairs were also completed.

Gunsan City plans to strengthen pre-inspections to prevent signal malfunctions and flashing signal conversions in the future, and swiftly replace aging traffic lights and low-visibility light fixtures to minimize the risk of traffic accidents. They also intend to maintain an emergency response system to promptly recover from any malfunctions.

Moon Yang-sook, the head of the Smart City Department, stated, "It is anticipated that there will be a significant increase in road usage due to tourists and marathon participants," adding, "We will create a safe urban traffic environment through thorough pre-inspections and swift responses."
