【전북교육신문】전주문화재단(대표이사 최락기)이 지역 예술인의 창작 지평을 넓히는 ‘예술인지원사업’의 세 번째 결실을 선보인다.
실과 보자기를 통해 전통의 가치를 현대적 미학으로 재해석한 양설 작가의 개인전 「색동, 실로 빛나다」가 오는 17일부터 29일까지 한국전통문화전당 3층 기획전시실에서 시민들을 만난다.
이번 전시는 가장 한국적인 도시 전주의 정체성을 닮은 ‘색동’을 주제로 한다. 양설 작가는 전통 색동이 가진 고유의 오방색과 선의 미학을 현대 공예의 언어로 치환한 작품 20여 점을 공개한다.
특히 보자기를 기반으로 천, 실, 유목, 자개 등 이질적인 재료들을 결합해, 평면에 머물러 있던 색동을 입체적인 공간 구조로 확장하며 공예의 새로운 가능성을 제시했다는 평이다.

양설 작가는“서로 다른 재료들이 만나 하나의 형태를 이루는 것은 단절됐던 나의 시간이 다시 세상과 연결되는 경험과 닮아있다”며 “이번 전시가 경력 단절 여성뿐만 아니라 삶의 가능성을 고민하는 모든 이들에게 다시 시작할 수 있는 용기와 위로가 되길 바란다”고 전했다. 현재 양 작가는 문화예술 경영학을 전공하며‘소리나무샘’공방을 운영, 전통 공예의 현대적 변용을 위한 탐구를 지속하고 있다.

The solo exhibition of artist Yang Seol, titled "Sedong, Shining with Threads and Porcelain," which reinterprets the traditional values through silk and porcelain into modern aesthetics, will meet citizens at the Korea Traditional Culture Center 3rd floor exhibition hall from the 17th to the 29th.
This exhibition focuses on 'Sedong,' which resembles the most Korean city, Jeonju's identity. Artist Yang Seol will unveil around 20 pieces of work that substitute the unique five colors and line aesthetics of traditional Sedong with the language of contemporary crafts.

Yang, who used to work as a journalist in the past, overcame a career hiatus due to marriage and childcare through porcelain crafts. For her, sewing was a healing process that connected the halted time and rediscovered her identity.
Yang Seol expressed, "The coming together of different materials to form a single shape resembles my reconnection with the world after a period of disconnection," and she hopes that this exhibition will provide courage and comfort for not only women experiencing career breaks but also for all those contemplating the possibilities of life to start anew. Currently, Yang is majoring in cultural arts management and continues her exploration for the modern transformation of traditional crafts through her workshop 'Sonamoo Sam.'
