【전북교육신문】전북현대는 오는 4월 1일부터 5일까지 포르투갈 리스본에서 열리는 세계 최고 권위의 유스 축구 대회인 ‘이베르컵(IberCup) 카스카이스 2026’에 전북현대U18전주영생고(교장 이장훈, 이하 전북현대U18)·전북현대U15동대부속금산중(교장 임완진, 이하 전북현대U15) 유스 연합팀을 구성하여 U16대회에 참가한다.
이베르컵은 2009년 포르투갈에서 창설되어 전세계에서 가장 중요한 국제 유스대회 중 하나인 이 대회는 전 세계 유망주들이 집결하는 최고 수준의 대회이다.
올해는 아시아에서 유일하게 참가한 전북현대를 비롯 독일의 베르더 브레멘, 스페인의 UD Almeria 그리고 현지 명문인 FC Alverca 등 전 세계 26개 유스팀들이 대거 참가해 우승컵을 다툰다.

이는 지난해 참가했던 네덜란드 PSV아인트호벤 주관의 “오텐 이노베이션 컵 2025(Otten Innovation Cup 2025)와 미국에서 열린 “GA Cup 2024”(Generation Adidas Cup 2024)에 이어, 전북현대가 추진하고 있는 ‘글로벌 유스 인재 육성 프로젝트’의 일환이다.
전북현대는 단순한 대회 참가를 넘어, 선수들이 세계적인 수준의 유망주들과 직접 부딪히며 본인의 경쟁력을 확인하고 선진 축구 문화를 습득하는 데 초점을 맞추고 있다.
