남원시가 지역 소멸 위기 극복과 스마트농업 분야 미래 인재 양성을 위해 남원용성고등학교와 함께 협약형 특성화고 공모에 나섰다.
남원시는 지난 17일 ‘2026년 협약형 특성화고 컨소시엄 업무협약’을 체결했다고 밝혔다. 협약에는 전북특별자치도와 전북특별자치도교육청, 남원시, 남원용성고, 폴리텍대학 전북캠퍼스, 남원시바이오산업연구원, 전북산학융합원, 한국농업마이스터협회 전북도지회, 한국농업기계학회, ㈜티에스팜, ㈜팜한농, 원푸드, 남원청년농업인연합 청년지음, 지리산처럼영농조합법인 등 14개 기관·단체가 참여했다.
협약형 특성화고는 지자체와 교육청, 기업, 특성화고가 협약을 맺고 지역 산업에 필요한 맞춤형 인재를 육성하는 교육부 공모사업이다.
남원시는 지난해부터 남원용성고, 전북테크노파크 등과 업무협약을 체결하며 스마트농업 소프트웨어 전문인력 양성을 위한 협력 기반을 다져왔다.
남원용성고는 교육부 ‘2025 직업계고 재구조화 지원사업’을 통해 스마트팜과와 드론팜테크과, 카페플라워과로 학과 개편을 마쳤다. 또 전북에서 유일하게 농림축산식품부 ‘2026 농업계학교 교육지원사업’에 선정돼 약 5억 원의 사업비를 확보하는 등 경쟁력을 인정받고 있다.
남원시는 이번 공모를 통해 스마트팜 산업을 이끌 인재를 육성하고, 학생들이 지역 기업에 취업해 정착하는 ‘교육-취업-정주’ 선순환 체계를 구축한다는 방침이다.
남원시 관계자는 “남원용성고가 협약형 특성화고로 지정되면 지역 청년들이 남원을 떠나지 않고도 전문 기술을 익혀 꿈을 펼칠 수 있는 기반이 마련될 것”이라며 “남원시를 대한민국 스마트농업 교육의 거점으로 만들겠다”고 말했다.
한편 남원시는 대산면 일원에 총 60ha 규모, 총사업비 989억 원을 투입하는 ‘에코 에너지 스마트팜 복합단지’ 조성도 추진하고 있다.
