남원시가 4·19혁명 66주년을 맞아 19일 금지면 김주열 열사 추모공원에서 김주열 열사의 숭고한 희생정신을 기리는 기념식을 개최했다.
이날 행사에는 최경식 남원시장과 김관영 전북특별자치도지사, 박희승 국회의원, 김영태 남원시의회 의장, 신경순 전북동부보훈지청장, 도·시의원, 유가족, 기관·사회단체장, 김주열 열사 기념사업회 관계자, 주민 등 200여 명이 참석했다.
기념식은 김주열 열사 약력 소개를 시작으로 기념사와 추도사, 남원시립국악단 기념공연, 4·19의 노래 제창, 묘역 및 추모각 참배 순으로 진행됐다.
최경식 남원시장은 “민주주의를 위해 헌신하고 희생하신 모든 분들께 존경과 감사를 드리며, 유가족께도 깊은 위로의 말씀을 전한다”며 “불의에 항거하다 희생한 김주열 열사와 4·19혁명에 함께한 선대들을 자유와 평화의 상징으로 영원히 기억하자”고 말했다.
