<백명숙 동화 작가의 첫 동화집 ‘대단한 소심이’>
전북작가회의는 오는 5월 15일 오후 6시 30분 5월 문학산책을 개최한다. 이번 행사는 신솔원 시인의 사회로 진행되며, 동화와 시가 어우러져 장르를 넘나드는 창작의 매력을 나누는 자리로 마련된다.
사회자인 신솔원 작가는 시인이자 아동문학가로, 2013년 천강문학상 아동문학 부문 대상을 수상했다. 이번 행사에서는 오영석 시인의 첫 시집 ‘국숫집이 그립다’, 백명숙 동화 작가의 첫 동화집 ‘대단한 소심이’, 이경옥 동화 작가의 최근작 ‘바람을 만드는 아이들’을 소개하고 창작의 과정을 듣는다.
오영석 시인은 전북 고창 출생으로, 서정문학 신인상, 미래시학 신인상을 수상했으며, 현재 고등학교 교사로 재직 중이다. 첫 시집 ‘국숫집이 그립다’를 통해서 ‘그냥 후루룩이 아니다 / 후루룩후루룩’이라는 구절처럼 일상의 작은 감각 속에서 삶의 온기와 그리움을 길어 올린다. 또한 ‘돌부리가 지켜낸 마을 풍경이 사라졌다’는 구절처럼 일상의 사물과 풍경을 통해 사라져 가는 세계의 감각을 섬세하게 포착한다. 시집은 희미해져 가는 기억 속에서 새로운 낭만을 길어 올리며, 삶의 처소에서 길어 올린 해학과 정서는 독자에게 잔잔한 미소와 여운을 남긴다. 앞으로 시인의 작품 세계가 더욱 주목된다.
백명숙 작가는 2023년 동화마중 신인문학상을 수상했으며, 대학도서관에서 사서로 근무하며 오랫동안 책과 함께 살아왔다. 첫 동화집 『대단한 소심이』는 밥그릇을 두고 다투는 강아지 카누와 아기 율의 이야기, 가족을 잃고도 살아남는 메뚜기 초록의 용기, 소심한 소희가 못난이 인형을 통해 자신을 받아들이는 과정, 치매를 앓는 할머니의 기억이 오래된 재봉틀 앞에서 빛나는 순간, 책을 의인화해서 보여주는 친구 관계의 성찰, 사랑을 기다리는 할머니의 설렘까지 여섯 편의 이야기를 담고 있다. 이 작품은 가족, 생명, 관계, 자기 수용을 섬세하게 풀어내며 어린이와 성인 모두에게 잔잔한 울림을 전한다. 작가의 저서로는 ‘책 쓰기를 위한 글쓰기’, ‘책과 잘 노는 법’이 있다.
이경옥 작가는 2018년 전북일보 신춘문예로 등단, 2024년 한국안데르센상 동화 부문 최우수상을 수상했다. 작가는 최근작 ‘바람을 만드는 아이들’을 통해 전라감영과 선자청 등 지역의 역사적 공간을 문학으로 풀어냈다. 작가는 전주 지역의 이야기를 문학으로 풀어내고자 오랫동안 고심하며 본 작품의 창작에 임했다고 밝혔다. 작품은 아버지의 반대를 무릅쓰고 선자청에 들어간 달래의 이야기를 중심으로 펼쳐진다. 당시 부채는 신분과 권위를 드러내는 상징이었으며, 왕실과 신하, 양반 계층의 전유물로 여겨졌다. 이에 비해 일반 백성들은 깃털이나 천을 활용한 방구부채를 사용한 것으로 전해진다. 서민 달래는 경쟁과 생존의 논리 속에서 선택의 결과를 마주한 뒤, 방구부채 하나로도 같은 서민들에게 기쁨과 시원함을 전할 수 있다는 사실을 깨닫고, 자신의 손으로 더 많은 이들을 이롭게 하는 길을 선택한다. 저서로는 ‘달려라 달구!’, ‘집고양이 꼭지의 우연한 외출’, ‘진짜 가족 맞아요’가 있다.
정동철 회장은 “어린이부터 성인까지 모두가 각자의 삶을 문학으로 만나고 공감할 수 있는 자리가 되길 바란다”고 전했다. 시민과 함께하는 5월 문학산책은 문학에 관심 있는 누구나 참여할 수 있으며, 전북작가회의 사무실(전주시 완산구 중산중앙로 35, 302호)에서 5월 15일 진행된다.
Jeonbuk Writers' Conference to Hold Literary Excursion in May Combining Fairy Tales and Poetry
The Jeonbuk Writers' Association will be hosting a literary walk on May 15th at 6:30 PM. This event, led by poet Shin Solwon, will be a gathering to share the charm of creative works that transcend genres by combining fairy tales and poetry.
The host, author Shin Solwon, is a poet and children's literature writer who won the Cheongang Literature Award in the children's literature category in 2013. At this event, they will introduce poet Oh Yeongseok's first poetry book 'Missing the Old Country Inn', fairy tale writer Baek Myeongsuk's first fairy tale book 'The Amazing Timid', and the recent work 'Children Making Wind' by fairy tale writer Lee Gyeongok, while discussing the creative process.
Poet Oh Yeongseok, born in Gochang, Jeonbuk, has won awards such as the Seojeong Literary Newcomer Award and the Future Poetry Newcomer Award, and currently works as a high school teacher. Through his first poetry book 'Missing the Old Country Inn', he expresses warmth and longing in daily sensations, as seen in lines like 'It's not just a simple longing / A deep, deep longing'. He delicately captures the fading sense of the world through everyday objects and landscapes, as in the line 'The village landscape guarded by stone walls has disappeared'. His poetry evokes a gentle smile and lingering emotions in readers, offering new romance in fading memories and reflections on life from its corners, making the poet's literary world even more noteworthy in the future.
Author Baek Myeongsuk won the 2023 Fairy Tale Debut Literature Award and has worked as a librarian at a university library, living alongside books for a long time. Her first fairy tale book, 'The Amazing Timid', contains six stories, including the tale of a dog named Canu and a baby named Yul arguing over a bowl, the courage of a grasshopper named Chorok surviving despite losing its family, the process of a timid girl named Sohee accepting herself through an ugly doll, a moment when a grandmother with dementia's memory shines brightly in front of an old sewing machine, reflections on friendship through personifying books, and the excitement of a grandmother waiting for love. This work delicately explores themes of family, life, relationships, and self-acceptance, resonating with both children and adults. The author's other works include 'Writing for Writing Books' and 'How to Play with Books'.
Author Lee Gyeongok made her debut in the 2018 Jeonbuk Ilbo New Spring Literary Contest and won the Best Award in the Fairy Tale category of the 2024 Korea Andersen Award. Through her recent work 'Children Making Wind', she explores the historical spaces of Jeolla and Sunjacheong through literature. The author expressed that she had long contemplated and worked on creating this piece to portray the stories of Jeonju in literature. The work centers around the story of Dalrae, who defies her father's opposition to enter Sunjacheong. At that time, fans were symbols revealing one's status and authority, considered exclusive to the royal family and nobles. In contrast, commoners were said to have used fans made of feathers or cloth. Dalrae, a commoner, realizes that even with just a cloth fan, she can bring joy and coolness to her fellow commoners, choosing a path to benefit more people with her own hands. Her other works include 'Run, Dalgoo!', 'The Coincidental Outing of the House Cat', and 'They Are Really Family'.
Chairman Jung Dongcheol expressed, "I hope this literary walk will be a place where everyone, from children to adults, can meet and empathize with each other's lives through literature." The May literary walk, open to anyone interested in literature, will be held on May 15th at the Jeonbuk Writers' Association office (35 Jungsan Central Road, Room 302, Wansan-gu, Jeonju).
