전주시가 주최하고 전주문화재단(대표이사 최락기) 전주한벽문화관이 주관하는 2026년 전주브랜드공연 마당창극이 올해로 15주년을 맞아 오는 23일 첫 공연의 막을 올린다.
올해 선보이는 작품 ‘별향단젼이라’는 전주의 정체성이 담긴 ‘완판본’과 그 글자를 새기는 ‘각수’의 삶을 조명한 창작극이다. 투박한 목판 위에 이름 없는 백성들의 애틋한 삶을 새겨 넣는 과정을 통해, 수백 년의 세월을 건너 오늘날 우리에게 전해지는 기록의 가치와 감동을 마당창극 특유의 해학과 소리로 풀어낼 예정이다.
공연 개막에 앞서 지난 8일 전주한벽문화관 한벽공연장에서 열린 기자간담회에는 연출가 박인혜, 안무가 심주영, 주인공 윤돌 역의 배우 전민권, 상단 역의 배우 이해원이 참석해 작품에 대한 기대와 각오를 밝혔다.
박 연출은 “전통 기록문화인 완판본을 현대적 정서에 맞게 풀어내 누구나 공감할 수 있는 무대를 만들고자 했다”며 “기록되지 못한 평범한 이들의 노래가 오늘날 우리에게 어떻게 피어나는지 그 과정을 이야기와 연출 속에 정성스럽게 담아냈다”고 말했다.
이번 작품은 판본 속 인물들이 살아 움직이는 듯한 재치 있는 무대 연출과 젊은 소리꾼들의 경쾌한 에너지가 어우러져 흥과 감동이 넘치는 무대를 선보일 예정이다.
여기에 전주한벽문화관 특유의 고즈넉한 야외무대 분위기가 더해져 전통극의 매력을 한층 극대화한다. 특히 관객과 배우가 가까이 호흡할 수 있는 야외공연장의 개방감은 관객이 공연의 일부가 되는 특별한 몰입감을 선사할 것으로 기대된다.
‘별향단젼이라’는 5월 23일부터 10월 17일까지 매주 토요일 총 15회에 걸쳐 진행된다. 다만 6월 6일, 7월 18일~8월 15일, 9월 26일은 공휴일 및 기후 상황 등을 고려해 공연이 열리지 않는다.
관람료는 전석 1만 5천 원으로 전 연령 관람 가능하다.
