전북특별자치도가 지원하는 전북권역 통합재활병원 건립사업이 7일 전주 예수병원에서 기공식을 갖고 본격적인 공사에 들어갔다.
이날 기공식에는 이원택 도지사를 비롯해 도의원, 전주시장, 전주시의원, 예수병원 관계자, 장애인단체 등 100여 명이 참석해 사업의 성공적인 추진을 기원했다.
전북권역 통합재활병원은 장애인과 재활환자가 지역에서 전문적이고 연속적인 재활의료 서비스를 받을 수 있도록 조성되는 권역 거점 재활의료기관이다. 특히, 권역재활병원과 공공어린이재활의료센터를 통합 건립하여 어린이부터 성인까지 생애주기별 재활의료를 연계하는 통합 재활의료체계를 구축하게 된다.

전북은 장애인 비율이 7.4%로 전국 평균(5.1%)보다 높지만 전문 재활의료 인프라는 상대적으로 부족해 그동안 재활치료를 위해 다른 지역을 찾는 사례가 적지 않았다. 통합재활병원이 개원하면 도민들이 지역에서 전문 재활치료를 받을 수 있는 기반이 마련되고, 급성기 치료부터 회복기 재활까지 연속성 있는 의료서비스 제공이 가능해질 것으로 기대된다.
