【전북교육신문】대한민국 문화도시 전주에 아세안 11개 국가의 문화를 엿볼 수 있는 국내 3번째이자 호남권 최초의 ‘아세안홀’이 들어선다.
전주시와 한-아세안센터, (재)전주문화재단은 22일 시청 3층 시민소통공간 회의실에서 조지훈 전주시장과 한-아세안센터 사무총장 등 관계자들이 참석한 가운데 ‘전주시와 아세안 지역 간의 교류 증진과 「전주 아세안홀」 설치·운영’을 위한 업무협약(MOU)을 체결했다.
이번 협약식에서 참석자들은 한국전통문화전당 1층 전주홍보관에 조성되는 아세안 문화 전시 공간인 ‘전주 아세안 홀’의 성공적인 조성과 운영, 아세안 문화 교류 확대를 위한 상호 협력 방안을 논의했다.
특히 지난해 8월 전북특별자치도와 전주시, 한-아세안센터가 체결한 업무협약이 전북특별자치도와 전주시, 아세안 지역 간 교류 증진을 위한 포괄적 협력체계 구축에 중점을 둔 협약이었다면, 이번 협약은 전주 아세안 홀의 조성과 운영을 위한 구체적인 역할과 협력 사항을 담은 실행 중심의 협약이라는 점에서 주목을 받고 있다.
현재 국내에는 서울 한국프레스센터 1층과 제주 국제평화센터 지하 1층에 아세안 홀이 운영되고 있으며, 전주 아세안 홀은 국내 세 번째이자 호남권 최초의 아세안 문화교류 거점으로 조성될 예정이다.
오는 9월 17일 개관 예정인 전주 아세안 홀은 ‘아세안, 시간을 잇는 손’을 주제로 조성된다.
전시 공간에는 아세안 11개국의 문화와 역사, 생활양식을 종합적으로 소개하는 공간을 비롯해 아세안 관련 도서와 자료를 만날 수 있는 라이브러리 공간이 마련된다. 또, 의복과 가면, 소리, 빛 등을 주제로 한 다양한 전시콘텐츠를 통해 아세안의 문화유산과 예술적 가치를 입체적으로 소개할 계획이다.
여기에 전주 아세안 홀이 들어서는 한국전통문화전당에는 기존 한복과 한식, 한지 등 대한민국 전통문화 전시 및 체험 공간이 운영되고 있는 만큼 향후 이곳이 아세안 문화와 한국 전통문화를 함께 경험할 수 있는 융합형 문화공간으로 자리매김할 것으로 기대된다.
시는 전주 아세안 홀이 개관할 경우, 국제문화도시 이미지 제고는 물론 문화관광 활성화, 문화 다양성 증진, 글로벌 문화네트워크 확대 등 다양한 효과를 창출할 것으로 내다보고 있다.
조지훈 전주시장은 “전주 아세안 홀은 전주가 보유한 전통문화 자산과 아세안의 다채로운 문화가 만나 새로운 가치를 만들어내는 국제문화교류 플랫폼이 될 것”이라며 “전주 아세안 홀이 국제문화도시 전주의 새로운 문화관광 명소로 자리매김해 문화다양성 증진과 글로벌 문화협력 확대에 기여할 수 있도록 적극 지원하겠다”고 말했다.
한편 시는 현재 한-아세안센터, 전주문화재단, 전북특별자치도, 전북국제협력진흥원과 긴밀한 협력체계를 바탕으로 전주 아세안 홀 개관 준비에 박차를 가하고 있으며, 향후 전시와 교육, 공연, 체험 프로그램 등 다양한 문화 교류 사업을 통해 시민과 관광객이 함께하는 국제문화교류 거점으로 육성해 나갈 계획이다.

Mayor Jo Gihun stated, "The Jeonju ASEAN Hall will be an international cultural exchange platform where Jeonju's traditional cultural assets meet the diverse cultures of ASEAN to create new value." He added, "I will actively support the Jeonju ASEAN Hall to establish itself as a new cultural tourism attraction in the international cultural city of Jeonju, contributing to the promotion of cultural diversity and the expansion of global cultural cooperation."
Currently, the city is accelerating preparations for the opening of the Jeonju ASEAN Hall based on close cooperation with the Korea-ASEAN Center, Jeonju Cultural Foundation, Jeollabuk-do Province, and Jeollabuk-do International Cooperation Promotion Agency.
