일상의 익숙함 속에서 무뎌진 감각을 다시 일깨우는 특별한 전시가 찾아온다.
서학동사진미술관은 오는 9월 20일까지 김수진 작가의 개인전 <잠긴 산 떠오르는...>을 개최한다. 지난 9월 8일 개막한 이번 전시에는 평면회화 18점과 판화 4점 등 총 22점의 작품이 관람객을 맞이한다.
김수진 작가는 일상 속 ‘익숙함’의 이면에 주목한다. 반복되는 일상으로 무감각해진 현실을 바라보며, 회화와 판화 작업을 통해 서로 이질적인 이미지를 한 화면에 병치한다. 작가는 서로 다른 장면과 감각의 충돌을 이용해 익숙한 현실에 작은 균열을 만들고, 미처 인식하지 못했던 삶의 층위를 탐색해 나간다.
전시 제목인 ‘잠긴 산’은 작가가 바라보는 익숙한 삶의 상태를 상징한다. 겉으로는 높고 단단해 보이지만 실은 물속에 잠겨 정상이 수면 아래로 내려간 상태를 의미한다. 작가는 편안함을 주던 습관과 무감각이 삶의 감각을 둔화시키는 과정을 ‘얇은 비닐봉지처럼 자신을 옭아매는 상태’에 빗대며, 낯선 충격을 통해 일상에 틈을 내는 작업을 선보인다.
작가가 제안하는 ‘낯섦’은 거창한 것이 아니다. 한 정거장 먼저 내려 낯선 골목을 걷거나 창문을 열어 새로운 바람을 맞이하는 것처럼 작은 변화에서 시작된다. 작가에게 낯섦은 단순한 불편함이 아닌, 둔화된 감각을 다시 세우는 ‘깨움’의 과정이다.
전북대학교 예술대학 미술학과 및 교육대학원을 졸업한 김수진 작가는 전주, 광주, 서울 등에서 20회의 개인전을 개최하며 꾸준히 작품 활동을 이어왔다.
우진문화재단 청년작가, ASYAAF & Hidden Artist에 선정된 바 있으며 광주신세계갤러리 공모전 장려상 등을 수상했다. 그의 작품은 국립현대미술관, 삼성문화회관, 전북특별자치도교육청 등에 소장되어 있다.
한편 김수진 개인전 <잠긴 산 떠오르는...>은 전주 서학동사진미술관에서 진행되며, 관람 시간은 오전 10시 30분부터 오후 6시까지다. 매주 월요일은 휴관한다.

A special exhibition that awakens dulled senses within the familiarity of everyday life is coming.
Seohak-dong Photo Art Museum will host Kim Soo-jin's solo exhibition <Emerging Locked Mountains...> until September 20th. The exhibition, which opened on September 8th, features a total of 22 pieces including 18 paintings and 4 prints for visitors to enjoy.

It starts with small changes, like getting off at a different station and walking through unfamiliar alleys or opening a window to welcome a new breeze. To the artist, unfamiliarity is not just simple discomfort but a process of 'awakening' that re-establishes dulled senses.
Kim Soo-jin, a graduate of the Department of Fine Arts and Graduate School of Education at Jeonbuk University, has consistently pursued artistic activities by holding 20 solo exhibitions in Jeonju, Gwangju, Seoul, and other locations.
He has been selected as a young artist by Woojin Cultural Foundation, ASYAAF & Hidden Artist, and has won encouragement awards in the Gwangju Shinsegae Gallery competition, among others. His works are held in the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Samsung Cultural Foundation, Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province Office of Education, and other institutions.
