【전북교육신문】전북특별자치도가 새만금 신항을 중심으로 한 국제 크루즈 유치와 기항 관광상품 개발에 본격적으로 나선다.
도는 10일 국내 크루즈 선사와 여행사, 유관기관 관계자 등 20여 명을 초청해 ‘새만금 신항 크루즈 팸투어’를 개최했다.
이번 팸투어는 지난해 12월 새만금항이 신규 크루즈 기항지로 선정되고, 올해 4월 ‘전북특별자치도 새만금 신항만 크루즈 활성화 연구용역’이 완료됨에 따라 실제 크루즈 상품을 운항·기획하는 업계 관계자들에게 새만금 신항의 여건과 전북의 관광자원을 알리고 기항 관광상품 개발 가능성을 점검하기 위해 마련됐다.
팸투어에는 팬스타그룹을 비롯해 롯데JTB, 투어문, 위플릿, 아주관광 등 크루즈 선사·여행사와 한국관광공사 전북지사, 군산·김제·전주시 관계자 등이 참여했다.
참가자들은 먼저 최대 22만 톤급 크루즈선이 접안할 수 있는 새만금 신항을 찾아 항만 여건을 살폈다. 이어 군산 고군산군도와 김제 벽골제·아리랑문학마을, 전주한옥마을의 경기전·전동성당 등을 차례로 둘러보며 크루즈 관광객을 위한 기항 관광코스로서의 활용 가능성을 점검했다.
답사 후에는 전주에서 자문회의를 열어 팸투어 참가자와 전문가를 대상으로 설문을 진행하고, 관광코스의 상품성과 새만금 신항 활성화 방안 등에 대한 현장 의견을 수렴했다. 도는 이번 팸투어에서 나온 의견을 향후 크루즈 관광상품 개발과 유치 전략에 반영할 계획이다.
도는 새만금 신항의 국제 크루즈 유치를 위해 2023년 ‘크루즈산업 육성 및 지원에 관한 조례’를 제정한 데 이어 크루즈산업 발전위원회와 관광분야 TF를 운영하고 있다. 지난해 12월에는 새만금항이 신규 크루즈 기항지로 선정됐으며, 올해 7월에는 대만 포트세일즈를 추진하는 등 국내외 선사·여행사를 대상으로 유치 활동을 이어가고 있다.
향후에도 새만금 신항 크루즈 활성화를 위하여 선사·여행사와의 네트워크를 바탕으로 크루즈 유치 마케팅과 포트세일즈를 지속적으로 추진할 방침이다.
신형삼 전북자치도 해양항만과장은 “새만금 신항은 대형 크루즈선이 접안할 수 있는 항만 여건과 전북의 다양한 문화·관광자원을 연계할 수 있는 잠재력을 갖추고 있다”며 “이번 팸투어에서 나온 업계의 의견을 관광상품 개발에 적극 반영하고, 선사·여행사와의 협력을 확대해 실질적인 크루즈 유치로 이어질 수 있도록 노력하겠다”고 말했다.

Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province is actively moving forward with attracting international cruises centered around the Saemangeum New Port and developing port tourism packages.
On the 10th, the province hosted a "Saemangeum New Port Cruise Fam Tour," inviting around 20 domestic cruise operators, travel agencies, and relevant officials.

The province plans to incorporate the opinions gathered from this Fam Tour into future cruise tourism product development and attraction strategies.
In order to attract international cruises to the Saemangeum New Port, the province established the "Ordinance on the Promotion and Support of Cruise Industry" in 2023 and is operating the Cruise Industry Development Committee and the Tourism Field Task Force. In December last year, Saemangeum Port was selected as a new cruise port, and activities to attract domestic and foreign cruise operators and travel agencies, such as promoting Taiwan Port Sales, have been ongoing since July this year.
In the future, the province plans to continue promoting cruise attraction marketing and port sales based on its network with cruise operators and travel agencies to further activate the Saemangeum New Port.
