Former Mayor Jo Geun-hoon: "Activating Four Core Strategies in Earnest to Achieve Prosperity in Jeonju"
"I will make Jeonju the most dynamic and irreplaceable center of growth that moves the Republic of Korea."
Mayor Jo Geun-hoon held a press conference on his 100th day in office at the 4th floor conference room of the city hall on the 12th, stating, "The past 100 days have been a time of running breathlessly to awaken the dormant potential of Jeonju and completely change it into a 'city where citizens are the owners'" and "With this momentum, I will definitely make Jeonju a city where citizens are the owners, where AI becomes a new driving force for growth, where everyone takes care of each other, and where culture becomes an industry."
He then outlined the four key directions for the city administration that will be responsible for the next four years of Jeonju, based on the foundation laid in the past 100 days.
Mayor Jo first decided to enhance communication and administration with citizens by establishing a 'Citizen's Office' to fully realize the values of grassroots democracy, aiming to create a 'city where citizens are the owners.' Additionally, to overcome the financial crisis, he plans to push forward with financial soundness.
Furthermore, to secure future growth momentum, he will actively promote the establishment of the 'Physical AI-J Valley,' where research, companies, education, and residential functions are integrated in an advanced industrial hub of over 990,000 square meters (300,000 pyeong), and move towards becoming an AI special city by establishing an AI-based strategic industry fund and building an ecosystem for a global financial city centered around the National Pension Service (NPS).
At the same time, he plans to focus on the leap to a global financial city through the designation as the third financial center, protection of workers' rights by age and class, strengthening the self-sufficiency of small business owners and local commercial areas, and establishing a safe circular food system.
In the welfare sector, he plans to introduce the 'Jeonju Dream Child Allowance,' establish and entrust public postpartum care centers to alleviate the burden of childcare and childbirth, and establish support for youth housing and the 'Smart Safe Care 365.' Additionally, through the establishment of a center for integrated support for single-person households, safe companion services, and the construction of sports centers and facilities for the disabled, he aims to create a city that takes care of everyone with inclusive welfare without discrimination.
In the cultural and tourism sector, he aims to spread the spirit of the Donghak Peasant Revolution and transform Jeonju into a 'city of citizen revolution' through the creation of Jeonju Hwajang Park, as well as promote the 'Chunggye-ro RE:CORE Project' to revitalize the downtown area. Furthermore, he is determined to take a step further by combining △ successful completion of the comprehensive sports complex at the MICE complex △ support for the 2027 World Youth Day (WYD) and successful hosting of the World Culture Summit (UCLG) △ support for the production of 'Jeonju Made' films △ industrialization of traditional Korean meals, street food, and makgeolli △ combining K-culture and night tourism to leap Jeonju into one of the top 5 cultural industry cities in Asia.
