전북대학교(총장 양오봉)는 13일 오후 3시 남원글로컬캠퍼스에서 ‘전북대학교 남원글로컬캠퍼스 조성 출범식’을 열고 캠퍼스 조성사업의 본격 실행을 공식 선언했다.

이번 출범식은 남원 글로컬캠퍼스 조성사업이 행정절차 단계를 넘어 실질 운영 단계로 전환됐음을 알리는 자리로, 국가·지자체·대학이 협력해 국·공유재산을 재생한 전국 최초 상생형 지역재생 혁신모델이라는 점에서 의미를 더했다.

남원 글로컬캠퍼스는 폐교 부지를 교육·정주·창업이 융합된 공간으로 재생해 지역경제 활성화와 글로벌 인재 양성을 동시에 추진하는 사업이다. 외국인 유학생 전용 캠퍼스로 조성되며, 지역소멸 위기 대응과 글로벌 교육 수요 확대를 겨냥한 새로운 대학 모델로 주목받고 있다.

전북대는 글로컬대학사업을 기반으로 글로컬커머스학과·한국어학과·K-엔터테인먼트학과 등 3개 학과를 신설하고, 올해부터 250명 규모의 외국인 유학생 중심 특화 교육과정을 운영한다.

행사는 남원시립농악단 지신밟기 식전공연을 시작으로 기념식, 현판 제막식, 시설 라운딩 순으로 진행됐다. 양오봉 총장과 주요 보직자, 중앙부처 관계자, 전북특별자치도·남원시 주요 인사, 도내 대학 총장 등 70여 명이 참석했으며, 정문 현판 교체와 상징 조형물 설치를 통해 캠퍼스의 새 출발을 선포했다.

양오봉 총장은 “글로컬캠퍼스는 단순한 확장이 아니라 지역과 대학이 함께 미래를 설계하는 전략적 거점”이라며 “교육 혁신을 넘어 지역 재생의 새로운 모델로 발전시키겠다”고 밝혔다.

전북대는 향후 글로벌 인재 유치와 지역 산업·문화자원 연계 교육을 추진해 남원을 국제적 교육도시로 도약시키겠다는 구상이다. 캠퍼스 조성에 따라 외국인 유학생 유입이 확대될 것으로 예상되며, 전북대는 남원시와 협력해 정주 지원체계와 생활·문화·산업 연계 프로그램을 단계적으로 넓혀갈 방침이다.

The inauguration ceremony marked the transition of the Namwon Global Campus development project from the administrative stage to the substantive operational stage, emphasizing its significance as the nation's first collaborative regional revitalization innovation model that regenerates national and public properties through cooperation between the government, local authorities, and universities.

The Namwon Global Campus is a project that revitalizes a closed school site into a space that integrates education, urban revitalization, and entrepreneurship, aiming to promote local economic revitalization and cultivate global talents simultaneously. It is being developed as a campus exclusively for foreign exchange students, attracting attention as a new university model targeting regional depopulation challenges and the increasing demand for global education.

Based on the Global University Project, Jeonbuk University has established three new departments, including Global Commerce, Korean Studies, and K-Entertainment, and will operate a specialized education program focusing on 250 foreign exchange students starting this year.

The event began with a performance by the Namwon City Nongak Band, followed by a commemorative ceremony, unveiling of plaques, and facility tours. President Yang O-bong, key officials, central government representatives, major figures from Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province and Namwon City, as well as university presidents from the province, totaling over 70 people attended the event. Through the replacement of the main gate plaque and the installation of symbolic sculptures, the campus announced its new beginning.

President Yang O-bong stated, "The Global Campus is not just a simple expansion but a strategic hub where the region and the university design the future together," expressing his commitment to developing it as a new model for regional revitalization beyond educational innovation.

Jeonbuk University plans to attract global talents and promote education linked to local industries and cultural resources to transform Namwon into an international education city in the future. With the development of the campus, an increase in the influx of foreign exchange students is expected. Jeonbuk University intends to gradually expand cooperation with Namwon City to enhance support systems for settlement and broaden lifestyle, cultural, and industrial linkage programs.
