전주국제영화제(공동집행위원장 민성욱·정준호)의 산업 프로그램 전주프로젝트에서 제18회 전주프로젝트 ‘워크인프로그레스’ 선정작 5편과 ‘전주랩’ 선정작 10편을 공개했다.

워크인프로그레스는 제작 완성 단계의 한국 장편 독립예술영화의 완성도를 높이고 국내외 배급을 도모하기 위한 후반 제작 단계의 지원 프로그램이다.

올해 선정된 작품은 총 5편으로, 박근영 감독의 〈극장에 두고 온 것들〉, 변성빈 감독의 〈산의 손뼉〉, 최범석 감독의 〈약한 것들의 신〉, 박지훈 감독의 〈우리가 처음 만난 바다〉, 이상문 감독의 〈주름〉이다. 선정작 모두 극영화 장르로, 올해는 다큐멘터리 장르보다 극영화 장르가 더욱 두드러지는 경향을 보였다.

선정작에 대해서는 전주프로젝트 기간 동안 해외 유수의 영화제 프로그래머 및 국내외 영화산업 전문가의 작품 컨설팅이 제공된다. 또한 심사를 거쳐 선정된 우수작 1편은 시상식에서 발표되며, 배급지원금 500만 원을 지원한다.

한편, 전주랩은 다양하고 독창적인 한국영화 프로젝트를 발굴하고 육성하기 위한 기획·개발 멘토링 프로그램이다. 올해 전주랩에는 장편 8편, 단편 2편 등 총 10편의 작품이 선정됐다.

장편 부문은 에릭 리 감독의 〈나자레, 나자레, 나자레〉, 반시안, 윤재호 감독의 〈내 남자친구에 관하여〉, 이다영 감독의 〈다시 만난 우리〉, 장근영 감독의 〈미운 마음들이 모여서〉, 강물결 감독의 〈연애와 상상〉, 조한나 감독의 〈여〉, 최정은 감독의 〈조용한 유산〉, 최세담 감독의 〈파도위에서 춤추는 여자〉 등 총 8편이 선정됐으며, 극영화 장르 4편, 다큐멘터리 장르 4편이 균형 있게 선정돼 장르적 다양성을 보여줬다. 한편, 단편 부문은 양은경 감독의 〈섬광〉, 송진경 감독의 〈틈에〉 두 작품이 선정됐다.

심사위원단은 올해 전주랩에 대해 “인공지능과 새로운 매체의 등장은 영화 산업의 환경을 바꾸고 있으며, 때로는 우리 인류가 쉽게 대체될 수 있는 존재가 아닐까 하는 불안을 안겨주기도 한다. 그러나 2026년 전주랩에서 우리는 오히려 그 불안과 위기 속에서 더욱 또렷해지는 영화의 얼굴을 만났다”라고 기대감을 전했다.

전주랩 장편 부문 선정작에는 1차 기획개발비 500만 원을 지원하고, 프로젝트 개발을 위한 전문가들의 멘토링이 지원된다.

The Jeonju International Film Festival (co-executive directors Min Sung-wook and Jung Joon-ho) has announced the selected works for the industry program Jeonju Project at the 18th Jeonju Project, including 5 works for 'Work in Progress' and 10 works for 'Jeonju Lab'.

'Work in Progress' is a support program for the late production stage aimed at enhancing the completion quality of Korean feature-length independent art films in the production completion phase and promoting domestic and international distribution.

This year's selected works include a total of 5 films: Park Geun-young's "Things Left at the Theater," Byun Sung-bin's "Clap of the Mountain," Choi Beom-seok's "Gods of the Weak," Park Ji-hoon's "The Sea We First Met," and Lee Sang-moon's "Wrinkles." All selected works are in the drama film genre, showing a trend where the drama film genre is more prominent than the documentary genre this year.

During the Jeonju Project period, selected works will receive work consulting from overseas film festival programmers and domestic and international film industry experts. Additionally, one outstanding work selected through judging will be announced at the awards ceremony and receive distribution support of 5 million KRW.

On the other hand, Jeonju Lab is a planning and development mentoring program to discover and nurture diverse and original Korean film projects. This year, a total of 10 works were selected, including 8 feature-length films and 2 short films.

In the feature-length category, works such as Eric Lee's "Nazareth, Nazareth, Nazareth," Bantsian and Yoon Jae-ho's "About My Boyfriend," Lee Da-young's "Us, Again," Jang Geun-young's "Gathering of Ugly Hearts," Kang Mul-gyeol's "Love and Imagination," Jo Hanna's "Woman," Choi Jung-eun's "Quiet Legacy," and Choi Se-dam's "Dancing Woman on the Waves" were selected, with a balance of 4 drama genre films and 4 documentary genre films, showcasing genre diversity. In the short film category, Yang Eun-kyung's "Flash" and Song Jin-kyung's "In the Gap" were selected.

The judging panel expressed expectations for this year's Jeonju Lab, stating, "The emergence of artificial intelligence and new media is changing the film industry environment, sometimes causing anxiety about whether humanity can easily be replaced. However, in the 2026 Jeonju Lab, we encountered a clearer face of cinema amid that anxiety and crisis."

For the selected works in the feature-length category of Jeonju Lab, a first-stage planning and development grant of 5 million KRW will be provided, along with mentoring support from experts for project development.
