The Jeonju International Film Festival (co-executive directors Min Sung-wook and Jung Joon-ho) has announced the selection of Korean short film competition and regional entries.

For the 27th Jeonju International Film Festival's Korean short film competition, a total of 1,494 submissions were received from November last year to January this year. After in-depth discussions, the jury selected a total of 30 films, including 20 fiction films, 4 experimental films, 3 documentaries, and 3 animations.

The jury for this year's Korean short film competition included seven members, including director Kim Byung-kyu, who co-directed "Late Walk" (2023), which was screened at the 24th Jeonju International Film Festival's Korean short film competition, and actor Kim Hyun-mok, who won the Best Actor award at the 26th Jeonju International Film Festival's Korean competition. Other members included film critic Moon Ju-hwa, director Lee Ran-hee, director Jo Hyun-seo, and the festival programmer Moon Seok.

The jury stated that they aimed to select works that explore unfamiliar worlds and push boundaries beyond self-sufficient enjoyment, encouraging imagination beyond familiar territories.

In the regional competition, a total of 49 entries, including feature and short films, were submitted. Among the short films selected for the Korean Cinema Short Section were "Children Walking Spiral" by director Lee So-eun, "Scramble" by director Lee Han-deul, and "After This Night" by director Lee Seung-chan. The feature film "Graduation Album: Waiting for the Teacher" by director Kim Jong-kwan was selected for the Korean Cinema Feature Section.

The regional competition jury included director Kang Jeong-won, who directed "Stars and Sand" (2025), winner of the Grand Prize at the 51st Seoul Independent Film Festival, and director Park Ju-hwan, who won the Best Feature Film award at the 44th Seoul Independent Film Festival with "Graduation" (2018).

The jury members praised this year's regional competition for providing a platform to recognize the consistent work of local creators and contemporary awareness. They emphasized the importance of regional films as avant-garde spaces experimenting with new sensibilities and questions, beyond being on the fringes of mainstream industry.

The 27th Jeonju International Film Festival, where the selected Korean short film competition and regional entries will be showcased, is scheduled to take place from April 29 (Wednesday) to May 8 (Friday) in the Film Street and around Jeonju City, building anticipation among film enthusiasts.
